PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will continue to support investments that bring technology transfer and strengthen the participation of local companies, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia has a strong foundation to continue developing as a high-value investment and manufacturing hub in the region, supported by a mature industrial ecosystem, a skilled workforce, a strategic location and strong supply chain networks.
Anwar, who is in Shanghai, said he held a roundtable discussion with 21 top Chinese industry leaders to discuss investments in high-impact sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence and robotics.
He said the discussion also touched on the potential of electric vehicles and battery materials, as well as sectors like advanced optics, biotechnology, healthcare, speciality chemicals and advanced manufacturing.
“I also heard directly from industry players about their plans and aspirations, including the opportunities they see in Malaysia and the steps needed to realise these investments.
“The government will continue to facilitate quality investments that help develop local talent and create more quality job opportunities,” he said in a post on X following the meeting.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Transport Minister Anthony Loke also participated in the discussions.
China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching US$113.82bil (RM456.68bil) from January to August this year.
