Kelington partners Tata Electronics on Dholera semiconductor fab

KUALA LUMPUR: Kelington Group Bhd has partnered Tata Electronics to support the development of the latter’s US$11bil semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, India.

In a statement, Kelington said the collaboration will see the group support the delivery of critical infrastructure and systems required for semiconductor manufacturing at the facility.

The partnership is aimed at accelerating the fab’s operational readiness for silicon wafer production.

Kelington and Tata Electronics will also explore the development of local talent and advanced design and build engineering capabilities in India.

Kelington group chief executive officer Lim Seng Chuan said the partnership was designed to support the stringent requirements of semiconductor manufacturing.

“With our shared commitment to excellence in execution, this alliance will support the development of critical infrastructure for the Dholera facility and contribute to the growth of India’s semiconductor industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tata Electronics chief executive officer and managing director Dr Randhir Thakur said tool hook-up was a critical element in establishing a reliable and efficient semiconductor fab, including the integration of sophisticated equipment.

The Dholera facility, backed by a planned investment of US$11bil, will be a 12-inch, or 300mm, semiconductor fab.

It will produce semiconductor products for a range of applications, including automotive, mobile devices and artificial intelligence, serving domestic and global customers.
