SHAH ALAM: Newly minted head of the Selangor Justices of Peace Council, Tan Sri Jason Goh hoped to step up its community work in the state.
He said that, with the support of the council members, he hoped to carry out programmes to foster unity among the people.
"The JPs are in a unique position as they have local judicial and administrative duties entrusted on them.
"JPs are not mere honorifics, but they have special functions," he said.
Goh said this after the handing-over ceremony at the Selangor JP Council office here.
He said he hoped to forge better working ties with councils in other states as well as in Commonwealth countries.
He hoped to improve the council's image and branding to make it better known to the people.
Goh, a Klang community leader and businessman, said the council wanted to make it accessible to the people.
Saying he was deeply honoured by the appointment by His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Goh said he would strive to fulfil the trust and confidence of the Sultan of Selangor.
Goh thanked his predecessor Datuk Ng Seing Liong, who has completed his term.
He said Ng had carried out his duties well and that he would continue to seek his guidance.
