KAJANG: Current ongoing cases involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak remain status quo despite him being granted a conditional pardon.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the outcome of a case could not be linked to others.
“We have to understand that one case differs from the other. One case’s (outcome) cannot be linked to another.
“So, as far as we are concerned the pending cases remain the same,” he told reporters during a shooting event with the media yesterday.
On Friday, Najib was granted a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, provided he pays a fine of RM50mil.
However, apart from the SRC International case, Najib still faces various jail sentences and fines in other cases as he is entangled in multiple legal battles.
On another matter, Abd Halim said former Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and his immediate family have been served a notice to declare their assets.
“We have served a notice to him and his family members requiring them to declare their assets, as stipulated under the law.
“Normally the period given is around a month,” he said.
On investigations into Felda, he said former chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad has had his statement recorded in prison.
“It was taken at the Sungai Buloh prison on Sept 17 and continued on Friday. We expect the process to go on for another three to four days.
“Our focus and follow-up action is the collection of documents relating to the case which we found is in the possession of those overseas.
“In this regard we will apply for mutual legal assistance (MLA) via the Attorney General’s Chambers to obtain permission over there to record statements and obtain the relevant documents,” he said.
On the ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities and delays in the supply of Baja 3 fertiliser in Kedah, he said the MACC had recorded statements from 37 witnesses, including Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
“Another witness was Agriculture and Food Security Ministry secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak, whose statement was recorded on Sept 15.
“The remaining 29 individuals comprise members of the ministry’s Procurement Board, Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) Tender Evaluation Committee, PPK managers and fertiliser recipients, as well as Mada staff,” he said.
“Another eight individuals are employees of TaaVeeKun Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, Sinergi Perdana Sdn Bhd and Permodalan Risda Bhd,” he said.
