Wanita Umno backs party's RM50mil fundraising driver for Najib

PETALING JAYA: Wanita Umno has backed the party’s initiative to raise RM50mil to help former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak settle the fine imposed on him.

In a statement Friday (Sept 18), Wanita Umno said it fully supported the initiative announced by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and urged its leaders and members at all levels to contribute voluntarily according to their means through official channels to be announced by the party.

“We fully support the party’s initiative, as announced by the Umno president, to launch a contribution fund to help Najib settle the RM50mil fine.

“I urge all Wanita Umno leaders and members at every level to come together to ease the burden on Najib and his family by contributing voluntarily according to their means through the official channels to be announced by the party,” it said.

The party's women's wing also expressed its gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for the decision allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

“We humbly offer our gratitude to His Majesty the King for His Majesty’s grace.

“This decision brings great relief to Najib, his family and the entire Umno family, who have never stopped praying for him,” it said.

It also urged members to receive the development with due decorum, maintain proper conduct and continue respecting all processes and conditions that had been set.
