SUNGAI BULOH: The Transport Ministry will not limit the number of licensed MV15 operators, with more centres to be opened nationwide so that vehicle owners in every state can have better access to the service, said Anthony Loke (pic).
The Transport Minister said inspection fees remain standardised and controlled by the government, meaning operators cannot compete through pricing.
MV15 (also known as a B5 inspection) is a mandatory vehicle identity inspection in Malaysia that is required when transferring the ownership of a private used vehicle.
“Competition can only take place through the quality of service, integrity and efficiency,” he told reporters after visiting a private vehicle inspection centre here yesterday.
Loke said the inspection process at the centre could take less than 20 minutes if users followed their scheduled appointment times.
He added that the expansion would also benefit used-car dealers by allowing them to complete the ownership transfer process more systematically, quickly and with more options.
Loke reiterated that the government’s decision to open vehicle inspection services to more qualified operators would give vehicle owners greater choice and help reduce long queues.
He added that the previous single-player concession system ended on Aug 31, 2024, paving the way for a multi-player licensing system.
On July 16, 2025, the Transport Ministry announced the appointment of several new companies to operate vehicle inspection centres.
Meanwhile, Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, said he would propose to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to convene a Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting to discuss recent political developments.
He said the latest statements by some parties were not conducive to political stability and could affect investor and public confidence.
Loke said the unity government’s component parties needed to move in the same direction, adding that Anwar should make the matter clear to all parties in the coalition.
Loke was responding to a question on Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s challenge for the government to remove Umno from the administration as well as the latter’s assertion that Umno could do a better job than the current Prime Minister.
Loke said any reaction to Ahmad Zahid’s remarks should be sought from Anwar, who is currently overseas.
