A BAILEY bridge will be installed across Sungai Subang along Jalan Kubu Gajah in Sungai Buloh following a structural collapse in the wee hours of Wednesday (Nov 4) that cut off access to more than 4,300 homes in the Petaling district.
Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim said workers would assemble the bridge pillars on both banks before launching the cross-river structure on Nov 13.
"Our aim is to have the temporary steel structure installed to restore critical transit access," he told a press conference at Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Aziz Shah in Shah Alam on Thursday (Nov 5).
Izham added that the RM350,000 temporary bridge is scheduled for completion on Nov 27.
The three-week assembly timeline includes temporarily relocating utility poles belonging to Tenaga Nasional Bhd along the riverbank that currently block installation work.
The old bridge collapsed between 2am and 3am due to severe soil erosion caused by downpours, which compromised the foundation.
Jalan Kubu Gajah remains closed to all vehicles for public safety, with the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) advising motorists to use designated alternative routes.
"The Bailey bridge is a temporary measure and a permanent replacement will be built at an estimated cost of RM20mil," Izham said.
