PETALING JAYA: The Federal Territories Pardons Board will meet today, but board member Hannah Yeoh (pic) has refused to confirm if it would discuss an application by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“Yes, I can confirm the meeting will be held at 8.30am. We have been called (to the meeting),” the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) said.
However, she declined to comment about the agenda.
“I can only confirm that the meeting will be held tomorrow,” she told the media yesterday after launching the Kuala Lumpur Civil Defence Command Centre.
As Federal Territories Minister, Yeoh is part of the board alongside the Attorney General and three other members appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
It has been reported that Najib’s house arrest application would be the issues discussed, although it remains unclear whether the meeting would result in a decision.
Najib, 73, was convicted of misappropriating RM42mil belonging to SRC International and sentenced to 12 years in prison, along with a RM210mil fine.
He began serving his sentence at Kajang Prison on Aug 23, 2022.
In 2024, the Pardons Board halved his prison term to six years and reduced the fine to RM50mil.
On Dec 22, then High Court judge Justice Alice Loke, now a Court of Appeal judge, dismissed Najib’s application to serve the remainder of his reduced sentence under house arrest.
