Legal process respected but Najib's contributions not forgotten, says Wanita Umno chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno has not forgotten the contributions of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, says its chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

She said Najib’s contributions to the country’s development, economic transformation, infrastructure and assistance to the people, as well as his role in the party, were part of the nation’s history.

"We do not need to erase history to build the future.

"His contributions... are part of the nation’s journey and cannot be denied simply because politics has changed," she said in her policy speech at the Wanita Umno assembly at the World Trade Centre here on Thursday (Sept 10).

Noraini said that while Wanita Umno respected the institutions and legal processes involving Najib, this did not mean the party could not show compassion and remember his contributions.

"In matters that are currently going through the legal process, we respect the institutions and the legal process.

"But respecting it does not prevent us from having a sense of humanity. Wanita Umno knows how to remember and honour those who have served," she said.

Addressing Najib and his family, Noraini said Wanita Umno would continue to pray for their strength and fortitude in facing their difficulties.

"To Datuk Seri Najib and his family, Wanita Umno prays that they will be given the strength and fortitude to face every trial.

"We will continue to pray that the doors of justice and compassion are opened, so that he can return to the embrace of his family and continue the struggle together," she added.
