PETALING JAYA: A total of 12 areas in Malaysia recorded Unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 10am on Thursday (Sept 10), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
Of the 12 areas that recorded Unhealthy levels of air pollution, eight are in Sarawak, one is in Kuala Lumpur, and three are in Johor. The five areas with the highest API readings were Sarikei (195), IPD Serian (182), Samarahan (178), and Kuching (170), which are all in Sarawak, and Batu Muda (167) in Kuala Lumpur.
49 areas in the country reported Moderate API levels, and seven others recorded Good API readings. The five areas with the lowest air pollution were Langkawi, Kedah (29); Balik Pulau, Pulau Pinang (31); Kangar, Perlis (35); Alor Setar, Kedah (41); and Keningau, Sabah (42).
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
