MELAKA: A senior medical officer at a public hospital here has been remanded for five days for allegedly abusing his position in the procurement of knee implants worth about RM1.5mil.
The remand order against the suspect, who is in his 50s, was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The suspect, who is a civil servant, was detained at about 3.30pm on Sept 7 after arriving at the MACC headquarters in Alai here to have his statement recorded.
Preliminary investigations found that the alleged offence took place between 2024 and 2026.
The suspect is believed to have an interest in the company which was awarded the knee implant supply contracts, which is allegedly owned by one of his family members.
Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for using one’s office or position for gratification.
