KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 33 localities nationwide have recorded very unhealthy and unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
Sarawak’s Serian area continues to be plagued by haze with a reading of 241, in the very unhealthy category, as of 10am on Wednesday (Sept 9).
Nine areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy API such as Samarahan (185), Kuching (184), Sarikei (173), ILP Miri (171), Sri Aman (171), Samalaju (168), Bintulu (155), Mukah (154) and Miri (131).
Other areas nationwide like Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur recorded a reading of 170, also in the unhealthy category, as well as Johan Setia, Selangor (164), Cheras (161), Nilai, Negri Sembilan (158) Tasek Ipoh, Perak (157), Segamat, Johor (156) and Jerantut, Pahang (156) and Bukit Rambai, Melaka (155).
Besides that, 30 locations recorded moderate API reading while five locations recorded good levels.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
