IPOH: A firefighting operation is currently underway in a forest near the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Bidor after spot fires broke out on Monday (Sept 7) evening.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said that after controlling about 85% of the spot fires within a 2.4ha area, the operation resumed on Tuesday (Sept 8) at about 8am.
"We received a call on Monday at about 5.40pm.

"The operation was carried out until 12am, which was then halted due to safety reasons and having ensured the fire will not spread further," he said in a statement.
"The fire has been controlled, with only about 15% of the affected area left," he added.
About 16 firemen were involved in the operation, led by its commander Mohammad Munadi Omar.
