IPOH: Police have recorded statements from 10 people concerning a shooting at a Bidor petrol station on Tuesday (Sept 29), says Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.
He said statements were recorded from the 41-year-old victim who was shot and nine others, including the victim’s family members in the vehicle with him, along with workers and customers at the petrol station.
"We've also reviewed the CCTV recordings from the petrol station and could see how the victim was shot.
"We've checked CCTV recordings from the tollbooth and other areas, and we believe the suspects did not leave the district," he said in a press conference after attending a retired and retiring policemen appreciation ceremony at the state police officers' mess hall here on Thursday (Oct 1).
He added that the suspects’ vehicle licence plate registration number was also found to be fake.
"We have yet to determine a concrete motive, and we are still investigating the matter from all angles," Comm Mohd Alwi said.
The victim had just arrived at the petrol station in his large SUV with his family on Tuesday.
Shortly after, the suspects arrived in a black sedan, blocked his vehicle and opened fire on his large SUV, hit the victim on the left shoulder, before fleeing.
The victim was initially treated at Hospital Tapah before being referred to a hospital in Ipoh and then transferred to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here.
Comm Mohd Alwi said the victim, who owns restaurants in Bidor and Tapah, is believed to have been followed by the suspects from another location.
"From the CCTV recording, the suspect's car moved slowly and stopped in front of the victim's car.
"We believe there are three suspects in total, including the driver," he said.
