PETALING JAYA: A 21-year-old Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student died after experiencing health complications during an endurance event in Pahang, while seven others remain under treatment and medical observation.
Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Mohd Fellimal, a Diploma in Sports and Recreation Management student from the UiTM Negri Sembilan branch, collapsed while taking part in the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) 2026 at the UiTM Jengka campus in Maran on Friday.
He was taken to Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (HOSHAS) in Temerloh and pronounced dead at about 2pm on Saturday.
Police said further details on the cause of death would be known after a post-mortem.
UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin said the seven students are still receiving treatment and being monitored at HOSHAS and Hospital Jengka.
Liya Zafirah Muhammad from the UiTM Perak branch remains in the intensive care unit at HOSHAS, while Meor Aqil Wildan from the Perlis branch is also under close monitoring there.
The five students receiving treatment at Hospital Jengka are Nur Nabihah Musyidah Md Nasri from Johor’s Segamat campus, Nur Alia Farhana Abdul Fattah from Pahang’s Jengka campus, Muhamad Adam Azfar Suzaini and Muhammad Anas Shahrul Nizat from the Johor branch, and Izzharith Zafran Muhammad Zulkarnain from the Pahang branch.
Shahrin said UiTM cancelled all KKEC outdoor activities scheduled yesterday and is conducting a comprehensive review of the programme’s safety procedures, health screening, risk management and emergency response measures.
The university is also cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation.
Fadhlan’s father, Mohamad Fellimal Mohd Sulanah, described his son as an avid athlete in good health who had thoroughly prepared for the event.
He said Fadhlan had taken part in two previous editions of the competition and won awards with his team.
“We took many photographs as keepsakes, never imagining those would be our last memories with him,” he said, recalling their last meeting at a commissioning ceremony in Shah Alam on Aug 29.
“He had just completed his diploma and planned to pursue his degree, but this happened instead.”
Fadhlan was buried at the Elmina Muslim Cemetery in Denai Alam yesterday morning.
