KOTA TINGGI: The body of a third 16-year-old boy who went missing while swimming at Pantai Tanjung Lompat on Wednesday has been found.
Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone acting director Maritime Commander Mohd Najib Sam said the body of Muhammad Adib Hafiy Kamal was recovered at about 11.15am yesterday.
“The victim was spotted by a Tanjung Lompat Recreation Association boat about 0.5 nautical miles (900m) south-east of Tanjung Siang,” Mohd Najib said in a statement.
“The body was recovered by a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) vessel before being transferred to a Fire and Rescue Department boat and brought ashore, where family members identified the victim.”
Mohd Najib added that the body was sent to Hospital Kota Tinggi for a post-mortem, while the search for the remaining missing teenager continues.
The search-and-rescue operation resumed at 7am, with the coverage area expanded to 103 square nautical miles (353sq km) based on current drift assessments.
A total of 61 personnel from various agencies are participating in the operation, including the MMEA, Fire and Rescue Department, police, Marine Police, Civil Defence Force and Health Ministry.
The effort is supported by the local community, with four boats from the Tanjung Lompat Recreation Association assisting.
Mohd Najib noted that the search radius will be adjusted continuously based on weather, sea currents and ground reports.
It was reported that six boys from a group of 15 who went camping at Pantai Tanjung Lompat near Tanjung Balau got into trouble while swimming on Wednesday.
Two of them, Mohamad Faqrul Isqandar Abdullah and Muhammad Afiq Ruzaini Mazlan, both 16, were rescued by beach-goers.
The body of Alif Taqiuddin Kamal Hasrul, 16, was found later that day, while the body of Muhammad Thaqif Rayyan Rumainoor, 16, was found on Thursday.
Mohamad Haiman Fitri Supian, 16, is still missing.
