PETALING JAYA: Serian in Sarawak's hazardous-level Air Pollutant Index (API) readings improved slightly from hazardous levels in the morning to very unhealthy as of 4pm on Saturday (Sept 5), with five other areas nationwide also recording very unhealthy levels.
According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (Apims) website, IPD Serian recorded hazardous-level API readings at 259, down from 376 at 8am.
The five other areas, also in Sarawak, that recorded very unhealthy API readings were Kuching (264), Sri Aman (240), Samarahan (220), Bintulu (210) and Samalaju (207).
Another 25 areas recorded unhealthy API readings while 27 areas had moderate levels.
A haze emergency was declared in Serian on Friday (Sept 4) after API levels reached 519.
API readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
