BATU PAHAT: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized more than 600 vape cartridges suspected of containing a drug-laced liquid known as “Piu Piu” during an enforcement operation in the waters off Senggarang here.
Batu Pahat Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Mohammad Zaini Zainal said the cartridges, estimated to be worth RM160,000, were found inside a black bag that had been left on a rocky area along the coastline.
He said the suspicious boat was detected by MMEA personnel conducting a patrol in the area at about midnight on Friday (Sept 4).
“Upon noticing the presence of the MMEA patrol boat, the suspect on board fled together with the fibre boat.
“Further checks at the location found a black bag containing more than 600 vape cartridges filled with liquid suspected to contain a drug known as ‘Piu Piu’,” he said on Saturday (Sept 5).
Zaini said all the seized items had been brought to the Batu Pahat Maritime Zone headquarters for further action and investigation.
He said samples of the vape liquid would be sent for laboratory analysis to confirm whether they contained the suspected drug.
The agency also urged members of the public and the maritime community to provide information on suspicious activities in Malaysian waters to the authorities.
MMEA said such cooperation would help curb criminal activities and ensure the safety and security of the country’s waters.
