PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, has revoked the “Datuk Paduka” title conferred on Singaporean Poh Po Lian, effective Aug 30.
Kelantan state secretary Tengku Kaya Perkasa Datuk Dr Tengku Mohamed Faziharudean Tengku Feissal said the Sultan has revoked Poh’s appointment as Ahli Kedua (Datuk Paduka) Bagi Darjah Kebesaran Jiwa Mahkota Kelantan Yang Amat Mulia.
“The revocation is the right of Sultan Muhammad V and was carried out according to the Ruler’s discretion,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 3).
Tengku Mohamed Faziharudean said the Kelantan government has also gazetted the Enactment of Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) (Amendment) 2019, which came into force on Dec 31, 2020.
“Under the enactment, anyone who uses any order, insignia, medal, emblem or star of honour previously conferred by the Sultan but subsequently cancelled or revoked may face a fine of not less than RM10,000, imprisonment for a term of not less than five years, or both.
“The enactment also empowers the police to conduct investigations, including entering and searching premises as well as seizing evidence or exhibits suspected to be linked to offences under the enactment,” he said.
In October last year, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) issued a statement that it was seeking a Singaporean man and a Malaysian woman to assist its investigation into a corruption case.
