PUTRAJAYA: More than 100,000 spectators turned up for the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya here, with the programme running smoothly and according to schedule.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil expressed his gratitude to Malaysians near and far who came to join the celebrations yesterday.
“There were those from Sandakan in Sabah, others from Johor Baru and Jeli in Kelantan, who came together to celebrate this very meaningful day.
“The weather too has been very pleasant. For this, I have to thank all the relevant agencies that constantly monitored the situation,” he told reporters after the celebrations.
Fahmi said many spectators also took the opportunity to spend time with their families in Putrajaya.
“I truly hope that the celebrations this year further deepen our love for the country,” he said.
On the upcoming Malaysia Day celebrations in Kuching, Fahmi said the relevant authorities would hold a meeting soon to fine-tune preparations for the event.
“I believe that many Malaysians will take the opportunity to come and enjoy the various activities at the event,” he said.
Fahmi, who chairs the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day committee, said the event would also feature an exhibition tracing the history of Malaysia’s formation.
The celebration would take place on the night of Sept 16, with various events lined up around the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching and Plaza Merdeka.
