SHAH ALAM: A series of narcotics operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and in Ampang led to the arrest of 12 suspected drug pushers and mules.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the operations, conducted between Aug 4 and 17, resulted in the seizure of drugs worth RM37.5mil.
In one of the raids, he said a 33-year-old local man and a 28-year-old local woman were arrested at a residential premises in Ampang on Aug 17.
He added that police discovered 243 plastic packets containing 252.7kg of suspected syabu and 234 packets containing 88kg of suspected heroin base during the raid.
“The two suspects are not married to each other, but are merely acquaintances,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
Preliminary urine screening tests showed that both suspects tested negative for drugs.
In a separate case on Aug 5, he said a 39-year-old foreign man was detained after he was found carrying 7.72kg of cocaine in a suitcase.
The drugs were detected by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency during screening at KLIA.
He said the suspect, who had just arrived in the country, was believed to have brought the drugs in for the local market.
Comm Shazeli said a total of 12 suspects, aged between 22 and 54, including nine foreigners, had been detained so far in recent operations.
He said the overall seizures comprised 96.15kg of cannabis buds, 408.63kg of methamphetamine, 87.98kg of heroin base and 7.72kg of cocaine, with a total value of about RM37.5mil.
