BALIK PULAU: A former factory worker was fined RM500 by a Magistrate’s Court here after she pleaded guilty to strangling a co-worker during a dispute over delayed work.
Siti Fadzhlina Bazheer Ahamed, 42, admitted to intentionally causing injury to Anis Fari Syuhaili Johari, 30, during a work dispute when the charge was read before Magistrate Chia Huey Ting.
Siti Fadzhlina was charged with strangling Anis Fari around the neck at a medical device company in Kampung Jawa, here at about 12.30pm on July 26, 2026.
Based on the facts of the case, the incident occurred at the factory about 12.30pm when Siti Fadzhlina approached Anis Fari after noticing her using a mobile phone while working which allegedly caused goods to take longer to arrive.
Siti Fadzhlina then strangled Anis Fari around her neck, prompting her to lodge a police report.
The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing simple bodily hurt, which carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Prior to handing down the sentence, Chia asked if Siti Fadzhlina was aware of the seriousness of her actions.
"You strangled another person, which could have resulted in death.
“You strangled her because she was slow at work.
"Do you know she could have died? You could have killed her? This charge could have been murder?" Chia said in the Balik Pulau court on Thursday (Aug 20).
Chia told Siti Fadzhlina that if the victim was slow, she could have informed her supervisor instead.
“If she was slow, you should have informed her supervisor about the delay instead of confronting her,” she said.
Siti Fadzhlina then apologised to the court for her actions stating that she was remorseful.
“I am sorry, I regret my actions.
"I was dismissed from work following the incident,” Siti Fadzhlina said.
Lawyer Yiew De Xian, from the National Legal Aid Foundation, who represented Siti Fadzhlina, told the court his client was single and supporting her mother.
“We ask the court to impose a minimal fine,” he said.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Sofi Jaafar prosecuted.
Chia imposed a RM500 fine in default 14 days' imprisonment.
