KUCHING: The use of the Road Accident Management System (Rams) has enabled the Works Ministry to identify 99 locations where fatal accidents frequently occur, or “blackspots”, on federal roads nationwide.
Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic) said the system, developed by the ministry under the MYJalan initiative, plays a role in systematically managing, analysing and displaying road accident data, including identifying locations where accidents frequently occur, Bernama reported.
“The average of almost 18 lives lost every day due to road accidents in Malaysia is a very worrying figure,” he told reporters after closing the Rams Expansion Course and Road Accident Data Reporting here yesterday.
He said that, through the integration of accident data from the Integrated Police Reporting System under the supervision of the police, Rams enabled the planning and implementation of road safety interventions to be carried out more accurately and quickly.
“Accurate and quality data is an important basis for planning safer, more efficient and sustainable road infrastructure,” he said.
