KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian pilot nabbed in Jakarta has given police important information on drug syndicates operating in Malaysia and overseas.
A team of investigators have managed to obtain information on syndicates in Malaysia and other countries, as well as the suspect’s involvement in a drug trafficking network, Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said.
“The information obtained has yielded important leads for the NCID, helping our efforts to trace members of drug syndicates operating in Malaysia.
“The information will also be shared with drug enforcement agencies in the countries concerned to assist in tracking the international network,” he said yesterday.
Among the key information obtained is how the man managed to pass security screening at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), as well as the drug syndicate’s financial flow both locally and overseas, Comm Hussein said.
“We received full cooperation from the Indonesian National Police (Polri) as they gave the NCID investigation team access to the 39-year-old pilot.
“The suspect also cooperated well with the NCID investigation team.”
Comm Hussein said the investigation team aimed to verify several matters related to the case.
He said several individuals, including Aviation Security personnel had also been called in to have their statements recorded.
On July 28, the Malaysian pilot was arrested at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport by Indonesian authorities after officers discovered 15 large packages containing 70,114 ecstasy pills and methamphetamine in his luggage.
It was previously reported that the suspect had picked up the drugs from a location in Ampang two days before his flight.
