BACHOK: Bukit Aman has confirmed that a 22-year-old Malaysian woman was arrested by Indian authorities after attempting to smuggle 15kg of cannabis at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday (Sept 4).

Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan (pic) said the woman, from Perak, was arrested after Delhi Customs inspected her trolley bag and found the drugs hidden in 30 packages.

"The woman was arrested with 15kg of cannabis at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Sept 4," he said on Thursday (Sept 10).

He said the NCID received information regarding her arrest from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) India, and that the suspect boarded Batik Air Flight OD205 from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to India on the day of her arrest.

"The suspect is currently detained by Delhi Customs and will be investigated under India's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, while awaiting trial," he added.

Comm Hussein said the suspect had one prior drug-related offence under Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He added that the NCID would continue to communicate with NCB India to obtain further information on the case. – Bernama
