PETALING JAYA: A Pakatan Harapan candidate who contested the Rantau state seat in the Negri Sembilan state election and his wife pleaded not guilty at the Seremban Sessions Court on Thursday (Aug 6) to operating an unregistered private medical clinic, Sinar Harian reports.

According to the Malay language daily, Dr Azizul Hakim Mahdi and his wife Noor Ameeraa Rahmat, both 35, entered their pleas before Sessions Court Judge Shahrul Rizal Majid after the charges were read to them.

The couple, who are directors of a company, were accused of jointly operating an unregistered private medical clinic at Taman Bandar Senawang at about 11.30am on July 8.

They were charged under Section 5(2)(a) of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, for allegedly providing a private medical clinic that was not registered under Section 27 of the Act.

The offence carries a fine of up to RM300,000, imprisonment of up to six years, or both, upon conviction.

Separately, their company was also charged with operating an unregistered private medical clinic under Section 5(1) of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 upon conviction.
