SEREMBAN: Police controlled former Negri Sembilan state executive councillors' access to their offices at Wisma Negeri to keep the peace after the palace announced the revocation of their appointments, and not to side with any party in the ongoing dispute, says state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
"The action should not be interpreted as the police taking sides or giving recognition to any party in a matter going through a constitutional and legal process," he said in a statement issued at 8pm on Thursday (Sept 24).
He said personnel had also been deployed at the Galeri Diraja Tuanku Ja'afar and the Balai Undang Luak Sungei Ujong; access control at these locations is based on current security assessments and meant to prevent tension.
The statement came hours after Mentri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim told a press conference that his exco had been barred from Wisma Negeri since Wednesday under a verbal directive from authorities he declined to name.
"I feel this is not appropriate because there is no court order," said Ismail, who added that he himself had not been blocked.
He maintained that his line-up remained valid and said he had never advised the removal of any exco member under Article 38(5) of the state constitution.
Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir revoked the exco appointments on Sunday.
Alzafny said police had taken note of the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) statement on the proclamation dated April 19, 2026, which sought Tuanku Muhriz's removal.
The state secretary's office had earlier declined to gazette the proclamation after accepting the AGC's view that it did not comply with Article 10 of the state constitution.
He said the force fully respected the constitutional and legal process under way and would not make any determination on matters outside its jurisdiction.
He added that police would not tolerate lawbreaking or provocation that threatened public order or the safety of any individual or institution.
The public was urged to stay calm and not to spread speculation or unverified information.
