KUALA LUMPUR: Five more Immigration officers were detained by graft busters over their alleged involvement in hacking the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) to facilitate the illegal processing and approval of Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS).
Sources said the suspects, comprising four men and a woman aged between their 30s and 40s, were detained at about 1pm on Monday (Aug 3) under Ops Crack after turning up at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters to have their statements recorded.
Initial investigations revealed that the officers were suspected of conspiring to breach the MyIMMs system and assisting in obtaining approvals for PLKS applications without complying with the prescribed procedures.
Following the arrests, the MACC seized five mobile phones belonging to the suspects as part of its investigation.
Sources added that investigators have so far recorded statements from 17 individuals to assist in the probe.
The anti-graft agency has also frozen nine bank accounts, comprising four personal accounts and two company accounts, involving about RM300,000.
When contacted, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests.
He said the case is being investigated under Sections 17(a) and 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Abd Halim added that all five suspects are expected to be brought to the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court this morning to be remanded.
Previously six immigration officers and a policeman were among 12 individuals detained by the MACC on July 28 for their alleged involvement in a syndicate that hacked the Malaysia Immigration System (MyIMMs).
The syndicate allegedly breached the system to illegally approve PLKS applications.
On Aug 1, the Immigration department detained eight Myanmar nationals in Cheras.
