Eight policemen nabbed in ketum water raid in KL


KUALA LUMPUR: Eight police personnel are among nine individuals who were arrested during a raid in Taman Keramat here linked to ketum water.

Bukit Aman integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) director Datuk Aida Abdul Hamid confirmed the arrests.

She said the department was closely monitoring the case and that the Ampang Jaya police headquarters was carryhing out an investigation.

"Yes, Bukit Aman JIPS confirms the arrest of eight police personnel along with a civilian in an operation in Taman Keramat," she said when contacted.

According to sources, the raid was conducted at 8.45pm at Jalan AU1, Taman Keramat here by the Bukit Aman JIPS Intelligence and Operations Branch and the Ampang Jaya District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.

"The eight arrested personnel include seven attached to various branches under the Sentul District Police Headquarters (IPD), while another is attached to the Brickfields IPD. A civilian was also arrested," the source said.

The source added that all suspects are being held at the Hulu Kelang Police Station lock-up and the case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952. – Bernama
