KOTA TINGGI: A woman on a motorcycle who was nine months pregnant lost her unborn baby after she was involved in an accident here.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the incident took place at KM4.3 of Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang at 1.55pm on Thursday (Oct 1).
"The 35-year-old victim was riding her motorcycle when she collided with a sports utility vehicle at a junction.
"The woman sustained head injuries and internal bleeding. She was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru but her unborn child was pronounced dead," he said in a statement on Thursday.
The car driver, a 61-year-old man, was unhurt.
Separately in Kulai, a 45-year-old Pakistani worker was killed while conducting road maintenance works on the North-South Expressway.
Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the 7.30am accident on Thursday occurred at KM18.5 southbound.
"A lorry that travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Skudai went out of control after another vehicle suddenly changed lanes from the right to the left.
"The lorry veered into the emergency lane where the worker painting road markings," he said.
ACP Tan said the victim sustained severe cranial injuries and died at the scene.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is punishable with a jail term of five to 10 years, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 and suspension of driving licence for up to five years.
