Melaka couple faces physical abuse charges involving nine-year-old daughter

MELAKA: A married couple pleads not guilty in Ayer Keroh Sessions Court on Monday (Aug 3) to physical abuse charges involving their nine-year-old daughter at their Melaka Tengah home.

The 36-year-old lorry driver and his 35-year-old wife recorded their pleas before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah on Aug 3. The father allegedly abused the child on July 19. The mother faces a similar charge for an alleged incident on July 21.

Both were charged under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001. The offence carries up to 20 years' imprisonment, a maximum RM50,000 fine, or both.
