PETALING JAYA: A woman who claims to be the owner of Rocky, the dog that was allegedly beaten and strangled by a group of men in Klang, said she pleaded for them to stop but to no avail.
Speaking up for the first time, the owner said Rocky had never bitten anyone before nor were there any complaints about him.
"We raised him since he was small and he was part of our family. He didn't deserve to die like this," the owner @_.abby04._ said in an Instagram post.
She said despite watching the whole incident unfold before her eyes, she could not accept that her beloved pet dog was gone.
"As his owner, the only thing I was able to do at that moment was beg them.
"I begged them so many times to leave Rocky alone and my mum also shouted at them but they did not stop or let him go.
"I just want everyone to know what really happened to my Rocky," she said, thanking the public for speaking up for Rocky
"Your support means more to us than you know. We just want justice for Rocky," she added.
The incident allegedly occurred at Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang at 10.50pm on Wednesday (July 29).
It was reported that neighbours witnessed the incident while Rocky's owner arrived only after the dog had been placed in a noose.
Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia, an animal welfare group, claimed Rocky was struck several times with a piece of wood.
The group also alleged that two officers from the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) were present during the incident.
According to MBDK, an operation was carried out on Wednesday between 8.30pm and midnight following formal complaints from residents over safety concerns arising from an increasing number of stray dogs in the area.
MBDK said the enforcement operation was conducted in accordance with By-law 17(1) of the MPK Dog Licensing and Breeding Kennels By-laws 2007, with the support of the health, community and sustainable development committee and that the local councillor had been duly informed before the operation.
