TAMPIN: The Cabinet will decide whether to make the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji public once it has been formally tabled and reviewed, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the government must follow due process before deciding on releasing the report, adding that any action arising from its findings would be taken in accordance with the law.
"There has been some discussion about the RCI. I do not wish to elaborate.
"God willing, once the report is presented to the Cabinet, we will make a decision.
"The report must first be read," he said in his speech during the Semarak Kenegaraan programme at the Syed Sirajuddin army camp here on Monday (July 27).

"If anyone is found innocent, they should be cleared. If anyone is found to have committed wrongdoing, they should be prosecuted.
"If they are convicted and sentenced to prison, then they should go to prison. That is not my decision," he said.
Anwar added that the government’s role was to ensure that the investigative and judicial processes remained independent and in line with the Constitution.
"Our system is clear – investigations are carried out independently, and that is not the Prime Minister’s role.
"As Prime Minister, my responsibility is to ensure the process remains free, fair and follows the Constitution and the rule of law," he said.

On Saturday (July 25), Anwar expressed confidence that the Cabinet would approve the release of the long-awaited RCI report, saying he supported making the findings public but that the proper process had to be observed.
He had said the report was not released earlier to avoid undermining public confidence in the pilgrims’ fund board.
Previously, he also said the government was prepared to release the report to enable the public to examine the commission’s findings into the sale of Tabung Haji’s strategic assets.
