KOTA BARU: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in Kelantan has foiled attempts to smuggle more than 20 tonnes of subsidised packet cooking oil to Thailand in separate operations in Pasir Mas and Tumpat, with the total value of seizures and confiscations exceeding RM138,000.
Kelantan enforcement chief Aswadi Jaafar said the first operation on Saturday saw the seizure of 2.8 tonnes of subsidised cooking oil from two multi-purpose vehicles allegedly used by a syndicate.
The integrated Ops Tiris 4.0 operation, conducted with the ministry’s Intelligence and Special Action Unit in Kelantan and police, led to the arrest of a 27-year-old local man, while another suspect escaped, reported Bernama.
In the second operation at Kampung Telaga Bata, Chabang Empat, the ministry seized 17.7 tonnes of subsidised cooking oil. Two local men, including the lorry driver and an attendant, were detained to assist investigations.
