Police to monitor social media during polls

SEREMBAN: The police have reiterated warnings against spreading slander or malicious comments during the Negri Sembilan election.

State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the police’s social media monitoring would be intensified during the period and that wrongdoers would face investigation regardless of their status or background.

“Do not upload, share or spread any statement that could incite hatred, enmity, racial and religious tension or touch on the royal institution,” he said.

DCP Alzafny said the police took a serious view of any dissemination of comments containing elements of incitement, provocation, fake news, or content that can disrupt public order, threaten national security and affect harmony.

He said stern action will be taken against the wrongdoers in accordance with provisions under the Penal Code, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Sedition Act 1948 and other relevant laws.

He also urged the public to obtain any information they required from authentic sources.
