KUALA LUMPUR: The government is confident that Malaysia’s economic growth will be around 5% in 2026, based on the strong momentum of current economic growth, says Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (pic).
He said the government had targeted growth of between 4% and 5% this year, and based on current conditions, the economy was expected to grow at the upper end of that range.
Akmal Nasrullah said sectors that had contributed significantly to recent economic growth included the electrical and electronics sector, including the semiconductor industry, which was expected to continue expanding.
“Based on our observations, the industry is expected to continue contributing to growth, including the manufacturing sector and others,” he said after delivering the keynote address at the Oil & Gas Asia 2026 Conference here yesterday, Bernama reported.
Akmal Nasrullah said the country’s economic performance needed to be viewed holistically, taking into account strong growth and inflation remaining under control.
