New political alignments needed to ensure stability, says Ahmad Zahid

JEMPOL: The increasingly dynamic political landscape requires all parties to formulate new strategies and alignments to ensure political stability, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said the understanding between BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election would serve as a test case before deciding whether the approach should be extended to the Melaka state election and the next General Election (GE16).

"As politics is highly dynamic, we will determine the necessary alignments for Melaka and other states in the future, especially in preparation for GE16,” he told reporters after the Gema@KKDW 2026 programme at Palong 8, near here on Saturday (July 18).

Ahmad Zahid said the understanding did not mean BN and PN had formed a formal political cooperation, but was aimed at avoiding overlapping contests that could split votes.

"There is no binding agreement between the two coalitions, but there is an understanding to prevent overlapping contests for seats contested by BN or PN,” he said.

Early voting for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election is set for July 28, while polling day will be on Aug 1.
