PORT DICKSON: It will be a five-cornered contest for the Sri Tanjung seat as Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Bersatu and two independent candidates throw their hat into the ring.
Pakatan’s Datuk Dr G Rajasekaran, who is the incumbent, is taking on Barisan’s A. Alagan and M. Leevineshwaraan of Bersatu’s associate wing.
The two independents also vying for the seat are Datuk A Saravanan and Islah Wahyudi Sainudin.
This makes the Sri Tanjung seat the most crowded contest among the five state seats under the Port Dickson constituency.
When met, Saravanan said he intends to help the public, noting that he is also a non-governmental organisation leader.
“I am also a former Rasah MIC division leader, and thought to myself - why not take my efforts further by joining politics. I will make sure the people of Sri Tanjung are taken care of, if elected,” he said.
Islah Wahyudi, meanwhile, said he chose to contest because his efforts to use bureaucratic channels to voice concerns failed to bear fruit.
His main point of contention was to drop the word Dickson, in Port Dickson, due to its colonial links.
“I have also been arrested and had my mobile devices both seized and blocked over this. I have even been compounded for this.
“Today, I am using my rights, as enshrined in the constitution, to contest,” he said.
