THE founder of an animal shelter in Thailand sold her gold amulet to raise funds for food and medical expenses for more than 1,700 stray animals under her care, China Press reported.
Tim Kawiporn Winichthaopatham said she and her husband operated a concrete mixer truck rental business that generated monthly revenue of up to 20mil baht (RM2.43mil) before they went bankrupt after falling victim to a fraud scheme.
Despite the financial setback, Tim has continued operating the shelter, she founded 24 years ago.

Major Chinese dailies reported that messages urging greater awareness of and protection for animals have been widely shared on social media.

Late last month, four Year Six pupils allegedly dragged Wangwang through the streets using a steel wire coiled around her neck in Jieyang, Guangdong province.
The pupils allegedly beat the mother dog before setting her on fire. They then stomped on the puppies and slammed them against the ground while laughing and recording their actions.
As they are minors, the four pupils were sent to a special rehabilitation school.

A post-mortem found that he had died of heatstroke.
According to media reports, police in Kumamoto prefecture said the boy’s mother had placed him in a child safety seat at the rear of the car before driving her older child to kindergarten.
She then ran some errands before going home forgetting her younger son was in the car.
