Construction firm prepared cheques totalling RM800,000 for Bersatu, court told

KUALA LUMPUR: A finance manager of a construction company told the High Court that she prepared four cheques valued at RM200,000 each to be donated to Bersatu.

Zurieda Deres @ Musa testified that the cheques were issued on the instruction of KCJ Engineering Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Azman Yusoff.

"On Sept 1, 2022, Azman met me at KCJ's office at Bukit Jelutong Industrial Park, Shah Alam, Selangor and instructed me to prepare cheques for donation to Bersatu amounting to RM800,000.

"As I remember, Azman told me that this contribution is linked to a Jana Wibawa project that was awarded to KCJ.

"However, I am not aware of any further details of the Jana Wibawa project," she said here on Thursday (July 16).

The witness further said that regardless of the objective, the instruction came from Azman, the managing director, and she had to execute it as a subordinate.

Zurieda was testifying as the prosecution’s 19th witness in Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's graft trial linked to the Jana Wibawa project.

According to Zureida, the RM800,000 total was split over four cheques as one of the signatories was out of town at the time.

"I divided it into four cheques because Mohd Zaid Yusoff and Zulhelmi Mairin, who are signatories, could only sign cheques valued up to RM200,000.

"If there was a cheque for more than RM200,000, it would require the signature of Tengku Sarah (a shareholder) but as I remember, she was out of town.

"I confirm that Mohd Zaid and Zulhelmi are company directors at KCJ until today," she added.

After the cheques were signed, Zureida said she then passed them to Azman.

"I do not know who cashed the cheques... this must be referred to Bersatu itself," the witness added.
