Perak govt keeping tabs on cult activities, says MB

IPOH: The Perak government is monitoring cult activities to ensure they do not become rampant, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Saarani, who also chairs the state security committee, said he would receive reports of such activities from the Perak Islamic Religious Department and Deputy Mufti.

"They will get reports or complaints of suspicious names or teachings that differ from true Islamic teachings.

"They will then go down to the ground to investigate. How they do it? Only they know," he told a press conference after opening the Halaman Seri Sejahtera at Taman Lapangan Terbang here on Thursday (July 16).

"But we are aware of what is happening and know of their presence.

"The Sultan of Perak, as the head of religion, would also be kept informed of any of such activities," he added.

Halaman Seri Sejahtera is a community hub for empowering women, family and community.

It has rooms for therapy for the elderly, counselling and psychosocial support and for conducting a range of workshops.

Also present at the launch was state women, family and community welfare committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed.
