Sabah marine police seize over RM8.7mil in palm oil raids since January

KOTA KINABALU: Over RM8.7mil worth of seizures were made for various palm oil-related offences in Sabah from Jan to July this year.

These raids involved 11 cases and 25 arrests under the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Act 1998, said state marine cops in a statement on Wednesday (July 15).

The Sabah Region 4 marine police said that the latest operation was conducted on Tuesday (July 14) with the Lahad Datu Malaysian Palm Oil Board, at a premise along Jalan POIC in Lahad Datu.

It said that some RM600,000 worth of palm oil kernels were seized, while assets believed to be used for illegal storage and handling of the kernels were also confiscated.

Prior to that, several workers managed to flee upon seeing authorities approaching the premises, it said.

“We will continue strengthening our strategic cooperation with other enforcement agencies to curb illegal activities like these, and at the same time protect the interests of national commodities,” said the marine police.
