Melaka Pakatan to discuss official position in state govt at coalition meeting tomorrow, says Adly

MELAKA: Melaka Pakatan Harapan has yet to decide its official position on the state government despite four DAP assemblymen withdrawing their support.

The coalition's chairman Adly Zahari affirmed that he continues to back Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The former Melaka chief minister said the coalition had not reached any formal decision on its standing in the state administration, as the matter would be discussed at a Melaka Pakatan meeting on Thursday (July 16).

Adly said Pakatan had its own mechanism for resolving issues involving its component parties before announcing any collective position.

"Melaka Pakatan will meet tomorrow. We will take into account the views of all our assemblymen and component parties before announcing an official decision.

"It is true that they (the four DAP assemblymen) have announced their action (to withdraw support), and every party within Pakatan has the right to make its own decisions. However, when such action is taken in the name of Pakatan Harapan, it must be discussed and decided by consensus.

"This does not negate the aspirations of each party. Our priority remains the people," he told a press conference at Seri Negeri on Wednesday (July 15).

His remarks came a day after four DAP assemblymen announced they were withdrawing support for the state government following the passing of the Melaka Constitution (Amendment) Enactment 2026, which provides for the appointment of nominated state assemblymen.

The four are Allex Seah Shoo Chin (Kesidang), Low Chee Leong (Kota Laksamana), Leng Chau Yen (Banda Hilir) and Kerk Chee Yee (Ayer Keroh).

Adly, who is also the Bukit Katil assemblyman, stressed that Pakatan's position announced on Tuesday (July 14) was solely to oppose the constitutional amendment on the grounds of democracy, the additional financial burden, and the proposed maximum of seven nominated assemblymen.

Commenting on the resignation of the four DAP representatives from their positions in the state administration, Adly said the move involved office bearers such as executive councillors, deputy executive councillors and the deputy speaker of the Melaka Legislative Assembly.

He noted that he did not hold any position in the state administration that would require him to take similar action.

Asked whether his continued presence on the government bloc benches in the state assembly indicated support for Ab Rauf, who is also Melaka Barisan Nasional chairman, the Melaka Amanah chairman replied in the affirmative.

"At this moment, as assemblymen, we recognise that there is only one Chief Minister, and for now we continue to support our Chief Minister.

"In any case, we will make our decision on the political appointments on Thursday (July 16)," he added.
