Man killed, wife hurt after being hit by car while crossing road in Melaka

MELAKA: A 66-year-old businessman was killed and his wife injured after the couple were struck by a car while crossing Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz here, shortly after leaving a private hospital following a medical appointment.

Melaka Tengah Acting OCPD Supt Halim Abas said the victim, Pang See Ting, from Taman Sungai Abong Cemerlang in Muar, Johor, died at the scene, while his 66-year-old wife, Chua Kwang Soon, was taken to the private hospital for treatment.

He said the accident occurred at about 2.15pm on Monday (July 13) when the couple were crossing the road to return to their car, which had been parked in a bay opposite the hospital.

"The couple had attended a medical appointment at the hospital and were on their way home when they were hit by an oncoming car driven by a 59-year-old man.

"The vehicle was travelling from Pulau Melaka towards Klebang at the time of the collision," he said.

Supt Halim said the driver was unhurt in the incident.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
