Social media influencer remanded over alleged rape of underage girl


KANGAR: A 23-year-old social media influencer has been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations into the alleged rape and recording of pornographic images of an underage girl here in June. 

Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the remand order against the suspect, who works as a shoe shop assistant in Kuala Lumpur, was issued today by Kangar Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor.

He said preliminary investigations found that the incident was believed to have occurred on June 17 when the victim, aged 14 years and 11 months, was allegedly taken by the suspect to his rented house here, where the rape is believed to have taken place. 

"The suspect is also believed to have recorded images of the victim during the sexual act. The victim is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar today to assist in investigations,” he said in a statement on Monday (July 13).

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code and Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.- Bernama
