PUTRAJAYA: "Celebrating Unity" has been selected as the official theme for the 2027 SEA Games and Asean Para Games.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the theme reflects a lasting spirit of unity and shapes the future of sports in the region.
"The theme will also be a source of inspiration for athletes to surpass their limits and strive for success," he said at the unveiling of the official logo, mascot and theme for the 2027 SEA Games and Asean Para Games on Monday (July 13).
Dr Mohammed Taufiq said the official mascot, Tuah, embodies the spirit of unity, drawing inspiration from the image of a dynamic, confident and approachable modern-day hero rather than the animal mascots seen in previous editions.
He said the mascot features the colours of the Jalur Gemilang, reinforcing unity and instilling a sense of pride among athletes and the public.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq said he hoped the official mascot, Tuah, would prove a lucky charm as Malaysia seeks to emerge overall champions on home soil.
He also expressed confidence that Malaysia's preparations as host, particularly the sporting venues across the four clusters of Sarawak, Penang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur, are progressing smoothly.
"There have been no issues with the facilities so far. We are now focusing more on technical aspects to ensure everything is in place and progressing according to the established timeline," he said.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq said he was confident Malaysia could achieve the National Sports Council's target of having 70% of its athletes finish on the podium at Asian-level competitions by the end of the year.
NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin recently said the target was to assess Malaysia's prospects of becoming overall champions at the 2027 SEA Games.
The 2027 SEA Games will run from Sept 18 to 29, followed by the Asean Para Games from Oct 17 to 23. – Bernama
