KOTA TINGGI: The surface of the pond, initially calm as dozens of saltwater crocodiles floated lazily in it, suddenly transformed when several frozen chickens were thrown into the water.
In the blink of an eye, a giant crocodile emerged from the depths before snapping up its prize with its formidable jaws.
It was Fey Fey, the most famous resident of the Teluk Sengat Crocodile Farm here. It holds the title of the longest crocodile in Peninsular Malaysia – about 4.5m long – and is over 130 years old.
Farm owner Cecilia Ng Siew Hiah said Fey Fey has a huge appetite compared to the other crocodiles at the farm, swallowing more than 10 chickens a day.
“In a week, we need over 1,000kg of chickens and in a month, the food supply can reach up to six tonnes,” she said, Bernama reported.
Ng said providing such a massive food supply is only a fraction of her daily responsibilities to the nearly 1,000 crocodiles on the farm.
She is carrying on a family legacy entrusted to her as a third-generation owner since taking over the management of the 4ha park about 15 years ago.
“Before my father passed away, he held my hand and said, ‘Remember, the gates of this park must be open 365 days a year.’
“Considering this farm is over 100 years old, I hope this legacy can be carried on by the fourth and fifth generations, and even survive until it is 200 or 300 years old,” she said.
