Cops nab 11 over gang attack in Ipoh

IPOH: Police have detained 11 individuals in its investigation into an attack that left a man seriously injured in Taman Pengkalan Jaya here.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 26-year-old victim was approached by five men in two cars at about 10.30am on Tuesday (Sept 1), who then chased and assaulted him.

He said the victim, in an attempt to escape, jumped into Sungai Kinta but was slashed with a parang, sustaining injuries to his face, hands, legs and back.

Mohd Alwi said the public came to the victim's aid before taking him to hospital.

"The incident was motivated by revenge and dissatisfaction by an organised crime group against the victim," he said in a statement on Saturday night.

Mohd Alwi said all those arrested, aged from 22 to 41, had criminal records involving drug offences and violent crimes and were remanded under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

He also urged anyone with information on illegal activities involving organised crime groups to report it through the police operations room's official channels or at the nearest police station. – Bernama
