JOHOR BARU: Thick, dark smoke billowed from a construction material store that caught fire in Stulang Laut in the city centre.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre said that after receiving a distress call at 9.39am yesterday, teams from the Larkin and Tebrau fire stations were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at 9.47am to find fire engulfing a storage shed packed with construction material.
“About 85% of the structure was gutted. Firemen used two hose lines and managed to bring the flames under control,” the department said in a statement, adding that no casualties were reported.
Larkin fire station officer PBK I Badrul Abdul Rahman told Bernama at the scene that the thick smoke was caused by diesel stored inside the facility.
He said the storage facility belonged to a construction company which used it to store equipment and material for construction work in the area.
The incident did not disrupt the voting process at any nearby polling centres, he added.
