Bersatu to study reasons behind poor showing

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu will conduct a post-mortem on its poor showing in the Johor election, to identify ways to strengthen the party.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic) said the party would study the election results in detail after losing all 16 seats it contested under the Perikatan Nasional banner.

He said the party accepted the results and respected the democratic process, adding that the review would help shape its future strategy.

Azmin also congratulated caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Barisan Nasional on securing a fresh mandate to form the state government.

He said Bersatu was grateful for the support it received from voters in the seats it contested.

Azmin also thanked party members and election workers for their hard work, commitment and loyalty throughout the campaign.

In the Johor election, Bersatu fielded candidates in 16 seats under the Perikatan banner, while PAS contested 17.

Perikatan failed to win any of the 33 seats it contested.

It also lost all three seats it previously held, namely Bukit Kepong and Endau that were held by Bersatu, and Maharani held by PAS.
